How to Kill Sin

One of the most talked about scriptures of the bible is 1Co 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
I have asked many people of different denomination and churches what this verse means. Sadly no one really knows (at least very few do). I ask each person what is the way of escape in reference to this scripture. So far I have found the same answer. "That varies on the situation at hand." Upon a deeper investigation I find that people really don't have any idea of how uncontrolled sin can get started.
